During the ERA Stakeholder Conference held on 18-19 September 2024 in Brussels, the upcoming launch of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) EU Node was announced. Iliana Ivanova, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, highlighted EOSC and the EU Node in her keynote speech as an example of collaborative efforts aimed at promoting Open Science across Europe.
The event, "European Research Area: Fostering Greater Integration, Advancing Competitiveness", was organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation under Horizon Europe. The conference explored ways to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) by addressing challenges and promoting opportunities for collaboration. One of the goals discussed was increasing collective investment in research and innovation to 3% of the European Union’s GDP. Ivanova emphasised the need to leverage existing talent and improve access to world-class research infrastructure to boost competitiveness.
The EOSC EU Node was showcased at the event’s exhibition area, offering attendees a first glimpse at the promotional video and the user interface still under development. The EOSC EU Node is designed to support Open Science by providing a platform for researchers to access and share data and resources across Europe.
The Technical Launch of the EOSC EU Node will take place on 10 October 2024 in Brussels. This event will be open to the public via a live-stream link which those interested can find here. Following this, the EOSC EU Node services will be made publicly accessible during the EOSC Symposium held on 21-23 October 2024 in Berlin, Germany.
