The landscape of European research is vast, involving countless institutions, infrastructures, and services. To provide a coherent and navigable ecosystem, the EOSC Federation has set out to collect and structure these national and thematic initiatives, outputs, and services.
In order to make all this information easily accessible and machine readable in one place, the EOSC EU Node (EEN) operates the EOSC Resource Catalogue, a database of records on all the organisations, research outputs, services, and tools that make up Europe’s research landscape. The Catalogue can be accessed through the EOSC EU Node Resource Hub, where users can browse and discover all of Europe’s research resources.
What is the EOSC Resource Catalogue?
The EOSC Resource Catalogue is a knowledge graph. This means that it is a structured database that collects and links together detailed information, in this case, about EOSC resources, such as services, tools, research data, publications, software, and other research outputs, as well as the organisations behind them.
It’s built by collecting and connecting records from major European sources identified by the European Commission, as well as the resource catalogues of EU Nodes.
How can I use the EOSC Resource Catalogue?
While the EOSC Resource Catalogue itself is a vast dataset, you don’t need any technical expertise to access the resources inside. Users can seamlessly navigate and access these outputs via the EOSC EU Node Resource Hub which acts as the Resource Catalogue’s user interface making it accessible to all.
Users can browse all resources or search by type and apply filters to make their search as smooth as possible. When viewing an item, users will see that it is also enriched with information such as

- Citation counts
- and more...
Related sources that cite the work can also be consulted under Related Sources in the Metadata tab.
As the Catalogue collects data from various sources, it performs deduplication to keep information accurate and reliable. This process detects and merges multiple instances or versions of the same record (for example, a preprint and its final published article) into a single entry, providing a more reliable representation of the research landscape. To ensure provenance tracking, users can still access all available versions of a record in the Manifestations tab.
Providing seamless access to these records plays a crucial role in strengthening knowledge sharing and collaboration across disciplines, driving scientific progress and innovation throughout Europe. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this vital resource.
Quality assurance
Quality is at the heart of the EOSC Resource Catalogue. Firstly, to ensure comprehensive coverage, the Catalogue collects records from several crucial EU-level sources, including,
Then it undergoes rigorous validation processes managed by OpenAIRE's trusted services. These processes include,
- Deduplication (as previously mentioned)
- Enrichment
- Provenance tracking
- Spam detection
- Filtering according to minimal FAIR ranking
Thanks to all of these steps, the EOSC Resource Catalogue is described as “Quality Assured”. It is also aligned with emerging Interoperability Frameworks for Scientific Knowledge Graphs (RDA SKG-IF, https://skg-if.github.io/).
